This book follows Grabien’s first JP Kinkaid mystery, Rock and Roll Never Forgets.

Rock star Kinkaid and his long-time love Bree are back in their home in San Francisco, after a rather chaotic tour with JP’s band, Blacklight. He has been asked as a favor to sit in with another group, the Bombadiers, whose lead singer has died. They have a new lead singer and guitarist, Vinny Fabiano. He is a nasty piece of work, spoiled, cruel to the crew, and a time waster; but in his own way, he is talented. JP is dealing with his multiple sclerosis (MS), and enjoying the work, until one morning the engineer opens the band’s own recording studio door to find Vinny dead, bashed in the head with a beautiful custom-made guitar.

Detective Patrick Ormand suspects everyone, but the whole band has an alibi. It looks like the cop’s best choice for murderer is the maker of the custom guitar, Bruno. But Vinny has a lot of things he’s hidden: A secret married woman in his life; and a secret source of money–he had several VERY expensive guitars, including a Zemaitis.

JP asks Blacklight’s lead singer Mac to come to San Francisco and finish up the album commitment for the Bombadiers, and the friends enjoy their time together. Then Vinny’s assistant and cousin, Rosario, is found dead, and things begin to fall apart. Bree has a serious health scare, JP’s MS has some serious flare-ups, JP learns some devastating secrets about Bree’s youth, secrets from a time when he had left her to return to England to help his ex-wife. Bruno is arrested… can it get it get much worse?

Author Grabien is a musician, married to a bassist, familiar with the San Francisco music scene, and she also has MS and rescues feral cats. Her love of music and her knowledge make this series realistic and fun to read.

Armchair Interviews says: A 5-star well-done mystery.
