Subtitled: The Power of Prayer for Boys and Girls
Stormie Omartian is best known for her The Power of a Praying books. More than 10 million copies have been sold. The titles include The Power of a Praying Kid, The Power of a Praying Teen and The Power of a Praying Parent.
In What Happens When I Talk to God? Omartian takes her passion for prayer and shares the message that “It’s never too early to teach a child to pray.”
Aimed at ages 3-7, Omartian helps children understand the importance of prayer, what prayer is, why God wants them to pray, when they should pray and what they should pray about. Children learn that God loves them and that’s why they should pray. And they can pray anytime and anywhere for anything. The book encourages children to be young ‘prayer warriors’ and affirms a child’s importance in God’s eyes.
What Happens When I Talk to God is a book for adults to read with their children. The narrative may be a bit long for three-year-old children, but they’ll absorb what their particular attention span allows.
The artwork, by Shari Warren is bright, colorful, inviting and attractive. The best part of the illustrations is the children themselves. They are from every race and as the mother and grandmother of a racially mixed family, I applaud this aspect of the book.
