Words cannot describe the treat in store for the reader of Trigger City. Sean Chercover has created a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire ride. Big City Bad Blood, the first book about private investigator Ray Dudgeon, won several prizes. Trigger City is even better.

PI Ray Dudgeon is approached by Isaac Richmond to investigate the death of his daughter Joan. The police have already closed their file. Steven Zhang left a confession at Joan’s residence after the shooting and then went home and killed himself. Isaac wants to know more about why Steven Zhang would murder his daughter.

As Ray searches for answers he begins to see a bigger picture. Joan had hired Zhang on contract with her current employer. This was not the first time they had worked together. Zhang had a contract with Joan’s former employer who was a contractor for the government. This contractor was being investigated and Joan was due to testify in a hearing involving her former employer.

Ray suspects that Zhang’s widow is afraid of something. Soon enough, Ray is threatened. He has no idea who is actually behind these threats but feels that there are not a lot of people he can trust.

There is a wonderful cast of returning characters. There is Terry Green, a reporter, who lends a hand when he can and an ear all the time. Then there’s Vince Cosimo, Ray’s part-time employee hoping to get his own P.I. license. A wonderful character by the name of Gravedigger Peace also makes an appearance. And Jill, a nurse who stole Ray’s heart, is very much on Ray’s mind but just beyond reach.

Trigger City is highly recommended and sure to be another prizewinner.

Armchair Interviews agrees.
