Author Colette Omans Nicoletta uses the alphabet, alliteration and anatomy to entertain and teach children in her book, There’s a Frog on My Forehead. She uses every letter of the alphabet to talk about animals and the human body.
Now that sounds like it wouldn’t be that interesting, but it is. She presents an animal and then introduces a body part with a name that begins with the same letter. She then explains the function of the body part in a way that children will enjoy and understand. The illustrations add to the fun and keep the child’s attention.
I liked that the author didn’t shy away from names that are more difficult or not used as much: cranium and quadriceps are two examples. The young child will be interested in the illustrations and the whimsical nature of the book and older children will be drawn into the learning aspect of the book.
Armchair Interviews says: A good addition to the home or school library.
