Solomon Lapp is a mischievous Amish boy who needs to learn some lessons about life. He and his brothers and sisters live among the Plain people of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Along with adventures at the farm, Solomon attends a barn raising where he learns about hard work and how a workman needs to earn his hire.
Each of the twelve stories included in The Wisdom of Solomon begins with a Bible verse that applies to the story and the lesson that Solomon or his sister Sara need to learn. Lessons include obedience, courage, sharing, helping others, prayer, kindness, plus much more.
The illustrations in The Wisdom of Solomon are beautifully done. My daughters especially liked the way that the border of the covers looks like a colorful quilt. The stories appealed to a wide variety of ages. As I read the stories out loud to my three-year-old and six-year-old, I noticed that my teenagers were listening to the stories as well and commenting on them.
The Wisdom of Solomon is definitely a book that will appeal to boys and girls and teach them a lot of valuable truths along with a Bible verse that could be used for memorization.
I highly recommend this book. It would be perfect in church libraries, for use in children’s church, and as a gift for your favorite child(ren).
Armchair Interviews agrees.
