If you haven’t read Revenge of the Kudzu Debutantes do yourself a favor and read that before reading The Secret Lives of the Kudzu Debutantes. The books are stand alone, but so much more enjoyable when you read both, and in order.
Ithaca, Georgia isn’t the same since Eadie, Lavonne and Nita took a stand and got their revenge on their cheating spouses. Eadie’s marriage was saved and she and Trevor moved to New Orleans where she could return to her art and he could write. Nita’s marriage didn’t survive, but she’s got a man and she’s getting married. Lavonne’s marriage also dissolved along with a lot of excess weight, but she’s back in the business world again.
Virginia Broadwell (Nita’s ex-mother-in-law) is miffed and determined to seek her own revenge against Nita for dumping her son and contributing to the loss of his law practice (which was the mother’s main source of income).
The book opens at Virginia’s wedding. If one doesn’t have money, one must find a wealthy husband. But her choice is less than desirable.
The result of Virginia’s determination to bring down the debutantes is a laugh-out-loud journey through the lives of women who are “coming into their own” and are determined not to be bested by the likes of one Virginia Broadwell.
The Secret Lives of the Kudzu Debutantes is the perfect summer read. There are characters to love, some to dislike (maybe hate) and you’ll root for the perfect outcome. This is a book that won’t disappoint.
