The next thing she knows, she is having a one-night stand with Scott, a fellow cop she barely knows. When Lauren’s plan of revenge goes terribly wrong, she is thrust into a living nightmare of her own making. Now Lauren must take on an assignment that threatens to destroy her career and her rocky marriage. She must decide between duty and self-preservation as pieces to the puzzle slowly unfold.
James Patterson teams up with Michael Ledwidge to produce yet another high-octane thriller. Patterson is the master of the first-person narrative, and we are reminded why in this latest installment. The story is told from Lauren Stillwell’s point of view, and her character takes us on a ride full of tension, mystery, and hairpin twists and turns. The storyline takes so many delightful detours that readers will be hard pressed to figure out how it will end.
Lauren’s dilemma is both gut-wrenching and thrilling, and readers will enjoy the ride as she searches for a truth that might cause more harm than good. As always Patterson guides the narrative along in short, choppy chapters that make for an addictive, fast-paced read.
James Patterson continues to produce thrillers at a phenomenal pace, and the quality is never lacking. With several popular series already underway, Patterson and Ledwidge have created another intriguing character in Lauren Stillwell that is worthy of her own series.
Armchair Interviews says: This one is classic Patterson, and it is sure to fly off the shelves this summer.
