The incidence of behavior problems, attention issues, learning difficulties and hyperactivity has skyrocketed in the recent years. One of America’s most respected pediatricians, Dr. William Sears asserts that one of the primary causes of this phenomenon is poor nutrition – filling our children’s diets with pre-packaged “fake foods.” The NDD Book provides valuable and compelling information about the direct impact this poor nutrition is having on our children as well as what to do about it.

Supported by research and testimonies from the families of his patients, Dr. Sears provides both a clear description of the problem and a specific plan for parents to address it without drugs. His direct and easy-to-understand language makes this complex problem easily accessible to parents. Occasionally his analogies border on too cutesy (iBod comes to mind), but primarily the abbreviations and stories provide clarity and facilitate understanding. He offers specific advice to parents of infants and toddlers as well as to the parents of tweens and teens whose taste buds have already developed on highly processed fake foods. The “dirty dozen” list of ingredients to avoid gives parents a handy guide to carry in the grocery store.

The recipes offer tasty and simple ways to fill your child’s diet with “grow foods.” My two-year-old particularly enjoyed the Salmon Cakes and Nutbutter Balls. Dr. Sears instills confidence in parents to make positive drug-free changes in the lives of their children.

This newest addition to the Sears Parenting Library, The NDD Book should be required reading for every parent, pediatrician and teacher in America!
