In The Moose with Loose Poops, little Miles the moose is looking forward to a camping trip with his father on the island. Unfortunately, Miles becomes ill and the camping trip must be postponed for a few days while mom calls Dr. Hippo and Miles recovers from his illness.

This charming story is perfect for young children who are fearful of being ill or who are afraid of going to the doctor. As the little moose experiences each symptom including having a tummy ache and diarrhea, children will find comfort and know that their symptoms will pass, too. Parents who are trying to help their sick child will also enjoy this story and will find that it may ease some of their tensions as they read it to their child.

I found the Parent Guide in the back cover of the book to be an extra nice touch. Complete with information on when to call the doctor and what to expect, it is the perfect compliment for this delightfully illustrated and easy-to-read book.

The author, Charlotte Cowan, M.D., is a pediatrician who filled a need by combining her love of reading and writing with her profession of healing children. Her goal is to write children’s books that explain illnesses is simple terms that children can understand, so that parents and children alike can have an easier time dealing with the many illnesses that come up during childhood.

I read this book to my children, and they enjoyed it tremendously! I would highly recommend this to new parents and to parents with young children.

Armchair Interviews agrees. See Web site for all her other books in the same theme.
