Lizzie Rush leads a life most people can only dream of…working for her family’s boutique hotel company as the director of concierge services and excursions, which allows her to travel across the globe. Unfortunately it also put her in the sights of a Norman Estabrook, billionaire adventurest with ties to a drug cartel who sees Lizzie as a confidante.
However, after having learned of his illegal dealings, Lizzie contacted the head of the FBI in Boston as an anonymous informant, putting her life at risk, should she be discovered.
After helping the FBI bring down Estabrook (and hearing him threaten the lives of the director and lead agent on the case), Lizzie knows that her problems are far from over. Being the brilliant and rich man that he is, Estabrook as no problem making a deal and avoiding jail time, allowing him to focus on making the FBI director and head agent suffer for his own amusement and revenge.
Having been raised by a spy, Lizzie has the skills to try to stop Estabrook and save lives. But when an attempt on the life of the FBI agent’s fiancee in Ireland sets off a chain of chaos, it may take more than Lizzie’s swift mind and knowledge of karate to bring down the man responsible. Lord Will Davenport, a reported British spy and former military man, may be the help she needs–if his charm and good looks don’t distract her.
Carla Neggers sets a plot in motion that is thrilling and holds the reader right through to the end. Every character has substance and dimension. Despite having a slightly anti-climactic ending, The Mist is a rich novel that leaves the reader wanting more.
Armchair Interviews agrees.
