A college reference librarian with a touch of a paranormal gift that makes her very intuitive, stumbles onto a mystery someone at her school wants to keep secret, something to do with an Inferno Collection–a old term for a literary collection of books not available to the general public.
When Kim Reynolds finds her friend Lorette dead of an apparent overdose, she knows something is wrong because Lorette has been clean from drugs for years. Plus Lorette had recently asks for Kim’s help to find out about an Inferno Collection and mentioned that someone seemed to be stalking and threatening her. Detective Mike Gardner has his own intuitive powers, and he knows there is a lot suspicious about Lorette’s death, especially when someone else Kim has questioned ends up dead, too. Can Kim and Mike solve the mystery before the killer gets to Kim?
The Inferno Collection is a very interesting and intriguing mystery. There is apparently a lot more to college libraries than I ever knew. I had never heard the term “Inferno Collection” either and I found the description fascinating. But I really loved the complicated character of Kim. She is very independent, intelligent, loyal, and yet troubled. Mike seems to be a good match for Kim with his calm patience and matching unusual paranormal gift that makes them have an incredible secret in common. And Mike knows that he and Kim have a connection that goes much deeper than a spark of attraction. But Kim has been burned before and she also has another suitor.
This story is primarily a quick-moving and thrilling mystery with a bad guy determined to eliminate anyone who happens to get in the way of whatever his fiendish plan is. There is just a hint of romance throughout the book but the ending leaves readers with a promise of more to come!
I enjoyed this mystery and am looking forward to reading a second adventure featuring these unusual and intriguing characters!
