A sandcastle can be built to perfection–but the next day it will be gone. Some pieces of art last forever, while others are like a forgotten memory. Sandcastles do fall, and that’s okay because art touches the soul. And whomever saw the castle before it fell, more than likely had their soul
touched by it.

Marlo is being raised in a chaotic home. His father raises him to believe all women are evil and always cause men pain. His mom and dad are constantly arguing. He struggles as he gets older, trying to figure out if his dad is right or wrong about women. He has all these questions but isn’t too close to his mother to get answers. He loves his mother–but struggles with the beliefs his dad has of women. Marlo has a talent for art. He builds the most amazing sandcastles and loves to paint adn sketch.

Marlo has two close friends, Danny and Ivan. They became friends in kindergarten and stay close even into high school. Danny falls heads over heels in love with a girl. Marlo watches as his friend goes through the changes of having a girlfriend. Danny gets his heart broken from his first
love. Marlo watches the pain Danny goes through and wonders if all girls are the same as his dad has had him believe. A friend’s brother told Marlo that your first love is the one you will always remember and love the most. Marlo falls in love at first sight with a girl named Desiree. He doesn’t see her again for some time and begins to think she was just a dream. Then finally his dream comes true and there she is.

Marlo’s dad has told him once you fall in love with a girl, you lose your friends, goals, and dignity. Marlo can’t help himself with Desiree. They get close and believe in one another. She wants to be a writer and poet and Marlo wants to be an artist.

I was drawn in on the first page. The pages are full of dreams and goals. This is book that will leave you mesmerized and waiting for the author to write more.

Armchair Interviews says: Nicely story about relationships and beliefs passed down from parents.
