Sophie Winston and Natasha Smith have known each other for many years. Their relationship is extremely competitive. They’re both ‘into’ food and write for competing newspapers–and well, Natasha is the recipient of Sophie’s husband. Now that doesn’t bode well for friendship. Sophie’s talent is in her simplicity while Natasha is ‘over the top’ with her sophisticated gourmet fare.
On her way home from the grocery store, Sophie finds a man’s body. But the innocent discovery takes a bad turn when the police find Sophie’s name and telephone number on the body. Suddenly Sophie is a pretty interesting person to the police.
But life must go on. Sophie is determined to win the Stupendous Stuffing Shakedown contest. The sponsor, Simon Greer, simply asks Sophie for a date and then he’s murdered (compliments of the turkey trophy). Now Sophie’s life becomes really complicated! The detective investigating the case thinks she’s a killer (or has really, really bad luck). If Sophie doesn’t take things into her own hands, she just might end up in stripes and dining on prison cuisine.
The great thing about amateur sleuth mysteries is that you understand there may be a necessity to suspend belief in the investigation of the murder. But that is part of the fun. And Krista Davis provides readers with a fun romp into the world of food, murder and mayhem. I will be on the lookout for her next mystery.
Armchair Interviews says: A fun mystery.
