Review by Susan Palmer

Charli Friedmont had not been back to her hometown until recently. She was trying to make a fresh start with her daughter Bonnie. She had been divorced from her no-count husband and thought she was going to make it. That was until Jack Mansfield arrived at her doorstep with a warrant for her arrest. How could anyone think she was capable of embezzling money from the bank she worked for?

Jack Mansfield enjoyed his job as police chief of Bullard, Texas, that is until he had to arrest his old flame, Charli Friedmont. Jack had been conveniently bumping into Charli around town, hoping to get a chance just to talk to her. Jack thought things had been going well with Charli and him in the old days until that troublemaker Vince Friedmont had strode into town and swept Charli off her feet. Now she’s back with daughter Bonnie in tow–and he has to arrest her for embezzlement. How could he been so wrong about a person twice?

Charli and Jack both have a lot to learn about each other and must overcome the past to do so. Charli must have faith in Jack’s brother Sonny to help clear her name. Charli must also learn why Jack stepped out on a limb to help post her bond. Jack has to have faith in Charli and that she didn’t steal all that money. He also must have faith in God that this situation will work itself out and that he will have a chance at romance with Charli again. Can both of these broken hearts be mended together?

Debra White Smith writes a captivating tale of two lost companions as they make their way back to each other and back to God. Charli teaches Jack about parenting and Jack teaches Charli about taking chances in life. It’s hard to come back from a broken heart, but Charli and Jack both strive to do so.

Armchair Interviews says: An inspiring 5-star romance.
