As Kat, a middle school student discovered recently, there is no going back once ghosts find out that you are a medium and can talk to them. However, Kat doesn’t want to be a medium and talk to ghost so she is doing her best to shut them out! But when Kat sees a ghostly face appear in a picture of the house next door, she feels drawn to find out who it is and why they are in the abandoned house. Maybe she can even make learning about the house and its former inhabitants a school project? Of course Jac, Kat’s best friend, is excited about the possibility of seeing a ghost so she is along for the ride too.

In the second installment of the Suddenly Supernatural series, Kat must face up to her fear of ghost and her responsibilities as a medium to help when she can. That is a lot to deal with for a young middle school student who just wants a normal life. Luckily Kat’s buddy Jac is there to support her even as Jac has her own issues to face.

I like the way author Kimmel has combined abnormal abilities with the normal drama-filled lives of pre-teen girls to tell an interesting story. The girls are facing school projects, dealing with parents who have their own agenda, dealing with divorce and the potential for change in their current relationships, and learning to come to terms with their unique talents while trying to solve the mystery of the ghostly face in the house next door.

Even as an adult, I could relate to the issues the girls are facing and I couldn’t wait to discover who the face belonged to and why the spirit was hanging around the house.

I am really enjoying this series and I am looking forward to the next book!
