James Lessor and Skip Moore are two small timers who have been best friends since third grade, and they have followed each other into one get-rich-quick scheme after another. This time it’s a box truck. They plan to get rich moving people’s stuff around just like Ryder and U-Haul.

Skip’s wealthy girlfriend helps them get their first job—but in the load of personal belongings they find an envelope with a threatening letter and a severed finger. When they find out the finger belongs to a high school classmate who saved Skip’s life long ago, they have to do what they can to help find him, despite being warned off.

Aided by a local tough guy who is well armed and knows way too much about their business, they manage to continually make poor choices and get themselves deeper into trouble.

Cuban thugs, Florida heat, and a look at the lifestyles of the wealthy, all add color to this caper involving international intrigue. This is the first of Bruns’ books that I have read and also the first in this new series.

Bruns has another series with three previous books about an entertainment journalist that I will be looking for next.

Armchair Interviews says: Check out this excellent writer’s work.
