Sixteen-year-old Dru Anderson has never lived a normal life. She can sense all the strange things that come out to play at night and helps her father as he travels around the country hunting them. Moving from place to place has been hard but she has always had her dad–until the night he doesn’t come home. Now alone and being hunted by the creatures of the night, Dru has to decide if she can trust the two boys that have reached out and helped her. Graves is the strange, yet very appealing Goth boy who takes her in, protects her, and feeds her while she is in shock. Or the incredible hunky Christophe, who seems to hold the answers about who and what she is, and seems determined to rescue her–but with the fangs he’s sporting, can she trust him?
This is not a light-hearted simple teen story. It is filled with dark beasts of the night that continue to hunt and attack Dru and whoever she is with. She has two friends that may be either her help or her enemy, and it is hard to tell the difference. Graves got hurt and bitten by a werewolf trying to protect Dru and could either die or turn rapidly into her worst enemy. Her father would have shot him immediately but he helped Dru when she had no one else so how can she just kill him? When Christophe appears on the scene, he attacks the werwulfs attacking her and runs them off, rescuing Dru, but he is not human. Can she trust him or will he ultimately betray her?
In the midst of all of this, Dru has no idea why everyone seems to be hunting her or why her powers seem to be strengthening–and she has no one to ask. Dru is a strong, bright, and courageous character. I loved watching Dru develop in this story and I can’t wait to read what happens next.
Strange Angels is a wonderful kick off for a gritty, adventurous, teen paranormal series that paranormal fans of all ages will enjoy.
