The Jihad is not over, the Taliban has not been destroyed, Osama bin Laden has not lost his power, and his right-hand man, code named Khalil, is ready to visit ultimate terror on the U.S. and its citizens. Few have seen him and most who do die, no photos exist, and he seems to enter any country he chooses undetected.
And it all starts with a trip on a small Alaskan cruise ship by the Secretary of Defense, his wife, and CIA Director Kirk McGarvey and his spouse. The get-away is a well-guarded secret--or so they thought. The ship is attacked by Khalil and his terrorists, dozens are killed, and the Secretary of Defense is about to be kidnapped. But "Mac" McGarvey foils the attempt--even as he watches dozens of innocents die.
But all of this is just the tip of the iceberg. Four terrorists have crossed U.S. borders and are preparing to launch four separate attacks simultaneously. Mac has only days to convince the President that allies are not necessarily allies and that harsh and desperate measures have to be taken to prevent the attacks from happening.
Meanwhile there are people within the government who think that Mac's ability to foil these plots happens only because he is secretly an agent for the Taliban and has sold out his country. This notion is supported by a Swiss Federal policeman who wants to even the score because he believes that Mac is responsible for the death of the woman he loved.
All of this sends Mac, and the handful of people he can trust, on a whirlwind mission to Morocco, Switzerland, Afghanistan, and Saudi Arabia to find the truth before terror erupts in America's heartland.
