Retched smelling, leathery-skinned Ogres, a Banshee with an attention-grabbing accent and pale- blue skin and ferocious little Pixies with rows of razor-sharp teeth–these are just a few of the creatures that Tevis and Kat, detectives with the Corpus Christi, Texas police department, encounter to solve the murder case literally lying in a pool of blood before them.
In Shadow Path, Corpus Christi is much the same as it is today, with one HUGE exception: Portals. These Portals lead to and from the Otherside, mixing the human world with the non-human one. Tevis, an Elf who once came from the Otherside and Kat Morales, his human partner, face a figure as shadowy as Tevis’s past. This sinister, treacherous foe delights in the evil she spreads and in the physical and mental trials she throws at the detectives. Will it be worth the cost they pay if it solves the murder and possibly prevents others?
Shadow Path is the first book in the portal series by P.L. Blair and I eagerly look forward to reading the next! The author has an artistic flair for mixing the realities of this world with the magical world of the Otherside. With each page I was left desiring to know more about Tevis the quiet, level-headed Elf and Kat the gutsy, more impulsive detective.
P.L. Blair excels at providing detailed background information while introducing new characters at just the right pace!
Armchair Interviews says: Well-done sci fi/fantasy read.
