First off let me tell you, I am a Brett Battles fan since his first book The Cleaner. Shadow of Betrayal is the latest, and I hope not last adventure of Jonathan Quinn a.k.a. The Cleaner.

Quinn finds himself once again working for his old employer the Office, with a three-job contract and a promise not to ask questions when the next assignment is given. The first job has Quinn observing a meeting that will hopefully provide the Office with the intelligence it needs to expose the group that has arisen as Quinn’s prime nemesis, a shadowy organization known only as the LP.

In Shadow of Betrayal, Brett Battles again provides his readers with a rock-hard thriller plot and continuous action that has become a hallmark of his Jonathan Quinn novels. There is no shortage of whizzing bullets and dead bodies for Quinn to dispose of while still trying to figure out exactly what his controller at the Office has in store for him next.

Battles has a unique way of bring in just enough back story for a reader to be able to pick up any three of the Quinn novels, in any order, and know just enough about the characters to understand their motives and what drives them to do the ugly jobs they are given.

This book is maybe the best yet. But them I am biased as I’ve read the previous two and I love the characters. I am certain that once you read a Jonathan Quinn novel, you’ll be hooked and buy the other two. I can only hope there are more coming as there just aren’t many good summer reads out there like this one.

Armchair Interviews says: Battles has done it again. This is Jonathan Quinn at his best.
