Second Chance Pass: Virgin River Book 5

Paul and Matt have been best friends since they were little. When Matt dies, Paul feels it’s his duty to look after Matt’s wife, Vanni, and Matt’s newborn son. Looking after them comes second nature to Paul since he’s been in love with Vanni since he first laid eyes on her.

Vanni is having a hard time dealing with Matt’s death. Not only is he gone, but he’d been away in Iraq for over a year. Vanni is lonely but feels guilty because it hasn’t been very long since her husband died. She has feelings for Paul, but he doesn’t seem to see her as anything other than his best friend’s wife.

This was an especially fun book for me because I felt like I was getting a true bargain. It’s basically two stories in one. The first half of the book is the story of Vanni and Paul. The second half of the book expands more on the entire town of Virgin River. At first I was a little confused about why this wasn’t made into two stories, until I did a little research. There are actually several books already in the Virgin River trilogy. I just picked up A Virgin River Christmas and notice that Robyn Carr uses the same format through this book as well.

I think it’s a wonderful idea! I get to start out the book on an intimate level with a few characters and then end up with further stories on previous characters.

Though this is the first Robyn Carr book that I’ve read, I fully plan to make her one of my collectible authors. Her writing style pulls you and keeps you. Another great thing is that this book stands alone. Sometimes series books have to be read in order to have a clue what’s going on, but this one is written so well that even if you’ve never read another Virgin River story, you can jump right in and not feel lost.

Armchair Interviews says: Wonderful addition to this series.
