Martha Christian, wanting a revival in her devotional life, picked up the book My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers. The first time she quickly read through the foreword and moved onto the book. The following year, she decided to start reading from the foreword again and was surprised to realize that it was signed “B.C.” Who was this B.C?

Curious about the author, she delved into the life of Oswald Chambers. She called up every single Chamber she could find (most of them were in England). Until one day she hit the jackpot: she got a hold of Kathleen Chambers, the only child of Oswald Chambers and his wife. When Martha questioned Kathleen about the initials “B.C”, she found out that it stood for Biddy Chambers, the beloved wife of Oswald Chambers. This revelation enabled Ms. Christian to investigate the life of a woman who supported and upheld one of the most famous Biblical teachers of that time.

I enjoyed reading this book immensely. Usually, biographies are not my favorite reading material, but I could not put this one down. Not only is the story line captivating, but the writing itself is very excellent. It alternates between real-life conversation with Kathleen and the story of Biddy’s life. This creates a nice recounting of Christian’s search and the information that she found through her investigation.

Oswald Chamber is a person I look up to and hence I found the biography of his wife very touching and encouraging. It gave me hope that God can use anybody, as long as they are yielded to Him!
