Velma True is celebrating her birthday, wishing that she could do again many of things she has lived through, when suddenly a stranger shows up with a present. It is a rock that has a life of its own, a rock that can take her back to events and happenings all throughout her life. This rock is a part of her, and can open up feelings she has suppressed over her life. Velma has truly received a gift that is life changing.

Annie, a young girl whose mother died suddenly, was left with an aunt to raise her, is on the move. While going through her mother’s things she found pictures of a Christmas gathering and Annie is looking for this. She hitchhikes across the country to Echo, Florida, where she the owner of a pizza joint/ karaoke bar takes her in. Suspense builds throughout the book, as some unseen force is trying to get Annie.

Rose, the owner of the pizza place/karaoke bar, is a woman in love, in love with a man who has bad habits and who has never shown interest in her. She finds herself in charge of a teen on the run, with a story, and finds herself in the midst of a suspenseful matter, not of her doing or choosing.

Velma’s best friend Sara Long, or Long Sara as Velma calls her, is a retired schoolteacher who moved to Echo years ago, and she is just in need of a friend who understands her. She also is facing the onset of a debilitating disease. She finds a friend–and a surprise at Velma’s house on one of her visits.

Rudy True, Velma’s son, a womanizing, good-for-nothing rural mail carrier is disturbed by his mother’s gift. He faces his own fears, finds healing from his demons and love in the most unexpected place. All of these characters meshed wonderfully together in this story, and will keep you reading to find out what happens next.

While I wouldn’t classify Saints in Limbo a mystery, it a book filled with suspense and wondering. Author River Jordan has presented an excellent story in this book.

Armchair Interviews says: This Southern author is a marvelous storyteller.
