As a business educator, I am constantly on the lookout for resources that not only teach the appropriate theories of business – but that also offer practical help, as well. Susan Friedmann’s Riches in Niches does that perfectly.

Professionally, Friedmann is a trade show guru, proving her abilities for over 20 years by successfully helping major corporations look their best at industry events. On top of her busy schedule and prolific writing career, she has found the time to write a great tool to help entrepreneurs find their “niche.”

The idea is simple: when you find your passion, or niche, you will pour quite a bit of energy into making it work for you. Prior to reading this book, I was unfamiliar with the term nichepreneur – which is explained as an entrepreneur who has found their niche and pursues it with vim and vinegar.

I like the fact that the reader is not presented with an ethereal theory to leave the would-be nichepreneur flapping. Rather, Friedmann has written each chapter with applicable worksheets and checklists to aid in each step of the process. Particularly helpful is “Susan’s Speedy Summary,” a succinct list that provides an overview of the material presented.

Friedmann’s work is timely, as well. Advice abounds for the modern would-be nichepreneur – up-to-date stuff like blogging, podcasting, and even how to write a book to heighten one’s credibility. The best chapter, in my humble opinion, would have to be Chapter 9, where Friedmann explains her “Triple E” equation of success for entrepreneurs: Experts Educate Exponentially. My pedagogical mind was amply stimulated by her thorough advice on “what” to cover in your presentations.

Do you dream of your own business? Find your niche – and turn that itch into riches. As American entrepreneur Les Brown has noted, “Too many of us are not living our dreams because we are living our fears.” Read this book and see what happens. Who knows? Perhaps, you’ll make your nichepreneurial dreams come true.

Armchair Interviews says: A book that many will find most helpful.
