Blue Reynolds is famous as a talk show host. Everyone knows who she is…or do they? Beneath the façade of Blue Reynolds lies Harmony Blue, a girl who’s had a rough life and made some tough decisions. At the age of nineteen, the love of her life broke up with her, leaving her heartbroken. And soon after, she had a fling and found herself pregnant and giving the baby up for adoption. Now, millions of dollars and a few TV shows later, she wants to know what’s become of her son. She just wants to know that he’s happy, but finding the answer could force her to give up everything she’s worked so hard to achieve.
I really wanted to hate Blue. She’s famous and sporadically has a diva personality. In a fit of childishness she winds up pregnant, gives the baby away, and then when her life is settled to a degree she decides she wants to find him. None of us can “have it all.” It’s just not reality. Who does she think she is expecting to be rich, famous, and happy in her personal life?
The reality, however, is that I love Blue. She is so full of life and generosity. Though she has her diva moments, most of the time she’s just a typical girl looking for her place in the world. Yes, she has money and fame, but it’s come at a price that I wouldn’t be willing to pay. I also had to really respect the fact the she didn’t want to actually find her son, just know that he was happy. That shows a great amount of courage and self-restraint.
This was an exceedingly well-written page-turner. As the story began to unfold, I was a little disappointed at first. Things weren’t going the way I, as a reader, wanted them to. After awhile though I started liking the way the direction of the book was going, even more so than I liked the image in my head.
Armchair Interviews says: A wonderful 5-star read.
