Katie Weldon’s best friend, Christy Miller is finally marrying Todd—the day Katie and Christy have dreamed of for years. And everything would be perfect if only Katie’s date, Rick Doyle, would clarify exactly what their relationship is. Katie is not content with defining him as an “almost boyfriend” anymore.
Rick is the manager of a restaurant now, but he’s content with things the way they are. Katie tries to force him to define the relationship, but Rick balks. To complicate matters, Katie has been offered a position as R. A. in her college dorm. Should she take the job? And will she be content with whatever Rick has to offer without pushing for more?
I love Robin Jones Gunn’s Sisterchick series, so when I had the opportunity to read Peculiar Treasures I jumped at it. Unfortunately, I never read any of the Christy Miller books, and it felt like I was coming in at the tail end of a long series (which it seems I did) with this first Katie Weldon book.
Christy Miller fans will have a much easier time starting this new series than I did, as I felt I missed many key parts that I needed to know to completely enjoy this first book. However, Ms. Gunn’s writing style in impeccable, Katie is a fun-loving type girl that I would have loved to have called a friend, and the story is well-told.
If you loved Christy Miller, do pick up Peculiar Treasures. If you haven’t read any of those books, you might want to start there, so you’ll have the backbones for this story.
