Bo Forrester is a cab driver for the Sunbeam Taxi Company. Today is like everyday of the week. Bo has Ronnie and Carl in the back of his cab. They both live in the same trailer park, work at the same place, and both lost their license to DUI’s.
Bo is listening to the two argue in the back like they do every morning when he sees flashing lights behind him. Bo is speeding and gets pulled over by police officer Trudy Hauser. Ronnie gets antsy and runs from the police.
Turns out Ronnie had drugs on him and so Officer Hauser goes through the car, and uncovers a dead body in the trunk of the cab. The body belongs to none other than Fred Davies, a known art philanthropist.
Bo finds himself being harassed by the officer. Everywhere he goes she is always nearby or one step ahead of him. Bo decides that if he is the number one suspect in the case, and he is not guilty, then he will find out on his own who did kill Davies. Bo starts investigating and finds himself in places he normally would not be–like a biker bar.
The whole reason Bo is in Rhodes, living and driving a cab, is to find his parents. He enlisted in the Army at eighteen and left the commune and his parents behind. When he left, his parents were angry because they were hippies and believed that Bo was doing the wrong thing. Now Bo cannot find his parents because their commune is gone and the land is redeveloped. He must get ahold of other people who knew him when he was little–and hope for the best. But when you are told to talk to someone named Snake, and that he has been underground because of a murder from years before, do you trust him or not?
I liked this book. I was kept guessing a lot and that is unusual in a mystery. I could relate to many of the characters, and just when I thought I had it figured all out, I could not have been more wrong. I hope the author writes another book because i would read it. I was pulled in at page one and could not put the book down.
