Chrysee Martin (Mama O) dedicates her life to saving the orphaned baby animals of Kenya. Author Kim Doner has written On a Road in Africa, a delightful and educational children’s book that tells Mama O’s story.
Every day Mama O collects all the items necessary to take care of and entertain the various rescued animals that reside in Kenya’s Nairobi Animal Orphanage. As Mama O makes her trek, everyone in the area lends a hand to help.
Doner writes her informative book in rhyme with a cadence that really is more representative of song. In her rhyme she tells Mama O’s story in a manner that will interest, inform and excite children. The illustrations are beautiful and depict the life of Mama O and her little orphans.
At the back of the book is the story of the real Mama O, complete with pictures. The reader is also told that a portion of the book sales will go to helping the animal orphanage. Turn the page and there is the story and photographs of the orphanage itself.
Armchair Interviews says: On a Road in Africa is perfect for those animal-loving children. But it would also make a great addition to a schoolroom or homeschoolers.
