In this day and age, it is of great benefit to be bilingual–and it is well-known that young children are master language learners. Is there anything parents can do to begin the multi-language learning process when only one language is spoken in the home?
My Big Book of Spanish Words is one tool to begin children on the road to language learning success. This sturdy, colorful, oversized board book is perfect for combining language study and fun—with cuddle time, too! Toddlers and their caregivers can learn the words for basic colors, food, toys, clothes, animals, things that go, shapes, numbers, and common things around the house.
The illustrations are bright and creative. Each page is arranged to be pleasing to the eye and not overwhelming. It has just the right touch of whimsy and functionality. This isn’t like some wordbooks that have so many words on the page that parents shudder to see it coming. Readers can linger over the pages or give it a quick read and move on. Either way, the take-away value is present.
If I have any complaint, it is that parents without a background in Spanish may have difficulty with proper pronunciation, but I still believe that poorly pronouncing “comida” (food) is better that not knowing the word at all!
