The quick, short, opening chapter introduces the main character and both her human nemesis and
her ghostly nemesis.
Anna was five and staying with her grandmother the first time that she experienced her gift as a medium. Her life revolves around this gift and determines how others see her. Many reject her once they find out she possesses this gift, even her twin brother finds it difficult to accept Anna and her rare ability. As soon as she could, she struck out for New York City to become lost in the crowd of other unusual people. She supplements her income as a substitute schoolteacher during the day and practices her art as a medium at night. All is going well in her life until Edward, a musician moves downstairs in her once-quiet apartment building and disrupts her need for concentration with his music.
Edward moved to New York City from Maine to spend time practicing his music, pursuing an advanced degree, and hoping to win a lucrative contest.
Numerous lonely hearts enter the stage of Anna’s life as a medium. She directs and becomes part of their stories as she reaches to the other side and contacts loved ones who have departed this life.
