Michael Elsohn Ross' book,
Mama's Milk, provides parents and caretakers a wonderful opportunity to discuss how and why mothers nurse their babies. The stories are told in a comforting rhyme and celebrate breastfeeding and the bonding that results.
The author begins with a human mother cuddling her child and nursing and continues with pigs, horses, monkeys, elephants, bats, otters and on and on. At the back of the book there are individual pictures of the different animals and facts about them in conjunction with nursing. I learned a lot.
The illustrations are lovely and contribute greatly to the message. Not only will your child learn about mothers feeding their offspring, but the animal illustrations provide a great opportunity to learn to identify animals.
Armchair Interviews says: If you have a new baby and have older siblings, Mama's Milk is a great tool for learning, understanding and embracing the importance of mother's milk.
