In Judge and Jury, James Patterson and Andrew Gross show readers the intricacies of being a juror and the legal procedures that take place in trial.
Single mom Andie DeGrasse is not looking forward to serving on a
jury. She works at being an actress and takes care of her son Jarrod.
Andie decides the best way for her to get out of serving on jury duty is to tell the judge her legal knowledge comes from a part she played in "The Sopranos" as a stripper. This plan backfires and Andie becomes one of the jurors of the most electrifying case in the history of the country.
"The Electrician," as Dominic Cavello is called, is on trial for murders that he commissioned as head boss of the mafia, including two FBI agents. Nick Pellisante, agent in charge of section C-10, the FBI's organized crime unit in New York, is a witness for the prosecution in the case against Cavello. Although the FBI's evidence is ironclad, things change when the presiding judge is threatened.
The judge makes the decision to sequester the jury for the remaining
eight weeks of the trial. This decision is not welcomed by most jurors, especially Andie, who now must have her sister take care of Jarrod. With permission from the FBI agent Nick Pelisante, Andie has her son join the rest of the jurors one afternoon to celebrate Jarrod's birthday. This is a decision that Nick and Andie will regret for the rest of their lives.
James Patterson and Andrew Gross take you on a rollercoaster of a ride in Judge and Jury. The book is fast paced and full of action. Readers will have a hard time putting this book down as the story goes through fast hills and sharp curves. They will learn of the crimes commissioned by Cavello and the surprises Cavello has in store for Andie and Nick, as well as the readers.
