Ana Grey is stunned when she hears the news of Steve Crawford’s death. Steve and Ana had gone through FBI training together and even planned to be married. Although the marriage plans did not work out, Steve meant a lot to Ana. Now Ana is going to be sent undercover to work her way into a group of domestic terrorists operating under the name of FAN (Free Animals Now).

Ana is still recovering from a shooting incident but feels she is up to the task of working her way into a position of trust with the FAN group whose alleged purpose is to free the wild mustangs of the west. The FBI submits Ana to a brief training period to determine if she has the wits and ability to infiltrate the group. The training is difficult and mind boggling. I can’t imagine what it would be like to submit to the training.

Ana manages to meet Julius Emerson Phelps and his girl friend Megan and works her way into the group that resides at a farm in rural Oregon. The life there is intriguing and Ana is in constant danger. The undercover job has forced her to live a life of secrets. At times she wonders if she is working for the good side or if the FAN group is actually the “good guys.”

The characters have strong personalities and it is touch and go whether Ana will make it out alive.
