Juana wants to set aside the idea of having a Prince Charming meet all her needs. In this modernized fairy tale, she meets Gabriel, the Small Business Angel and finds out how to
create her own “happily ever after” as an entrepreneur.
The illustrations, by the author’s mother, help to move the story along. It would be great to see a few more business ideas that young people in the older age range might pursue, like walking dogs or babysitting, but as a blueprint for planning a future business it works well.
The suggested age range for the story is 4-9, but I think it has merit up to age twelve, and possibly higher in a program for at-risk teens whose reading skills are not at grade level. It would also be practical in an ESL program for its list of resources to for those curious about starting their own business.
With Juana and Gabriel, young girls will be well on their way to designing a life that won’t fade to pumpkins and rags after midnight!
Armchair Interview says: Unique theme for children’s book.
