Renowned radio therapist, Dr. Laura Schlessinger does it again! She adds her own seasoning to a compilation of advice from those who are stay-at-home moms (SAHM) In Praise of Stay-at-Home Moms.
The heated debate over moms staying at home or working outside the home seems to pit moms against one another when both desire the best for their children. Dr. Laura, in her trademark straight-talking manner encourages women who choose to stay at home without offending those who work outside their homes.
She acknowledges the challenge of making the decision to stay at home. There are recommendations about how to respond (or not respond) to those who disdain or disregard SAHM.
Other topics addressed: How a stay-at-home mom’s life affect their: offspring, husbands and selves. Most moms struggle to maintain their own identities once they have children. It is particularly hard for women who leave the workforce to pursue professional motherhood. SAHM nurture their families, and create a comfortable refuge for husbands who bear the mantle of being the sole provider of the family. Networking is important for SAHM. Children grow up fast and Dr. Laura applauds those who make the raising of those children their top priority in life.
I personally appreciate Dr. Laura’s affirmations in this book. What could be better for children than having the consistent presence, love and leading of a mother who is there on the good days and on the sick days? We all want to be nurtured, especially when the world seems against us or we just don’t feel well. We long for the constancy of a mom who knows us and loves us just the way we are. She emphasizes that a child can never have too many kisses from a loving mommy.
Dr. Laura, stay-at-home moms everywhere thank you for this book.
