In this supernatural thriller, Jack and Stephanie's marriage is strained. Ever since the death of their daughter, they've been divided and headed for divorce. Stranded, as the result of what they thought was a bizarre accident, they seek refuge at a welcoming house.
One that, as it turns out, was waiting for them.
Inside, they meet Randy and Leslie, another couple there via an accident of their own. Together, they find a table. Set for four.
A safe haven? Not when there are so many secrets to hide.
Being a fan of both Peretti and Dekker, I found myself trying to guess who wrote what. The blend of these two authors is seamless. These guys have pulled off a great tale, pointing the way first to ourselves, and finally in the only direction that matters.
The shifting of the house and all the rooms (oops! there's a secret exposed) left me at once frustrated with the descriptions and awed at the allegory. There are some great twists and turns forecasting a promising movie down the road.
And the ending? Satisfying. I will tell no more secrets.
