Bird woke up on the wrong side of the nest! He was downright grumpy. He didn’t want to eat, play or even fly. So, he decided to walk. As he walked by the various forest animals they all joined him. That made him grumpier still, until… Well, you’ll just have to read the book and find out what bird did when walking with sheep, rabbit, raccoon, beaver, and fox.
Bird is just like small children are when they wake up after a nap or in the morning. Nothing seems to help them snap out of their grumpy mood and get into a good mood.
Children will like the silly story and the primitive illustrations are delightful. The expression on Grumpy Bird reminds me of the drawings of Mo Willems (Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus) and kids will love the animal pictures.
Mo Willems has always been my favorite children’s author. I have a new author in the top three—Jeremy Tankard. His Grumpy Bird is, as my granddaughter said is, “silly.” And that’s a good thing.
Armchair Interviews says: The simplicity of Grumpy Bird by Jeremy Tankard makes this children’s book a winner!
