Storm Syrell lives a relatively stable and neat life. As an antique seller in Palm Beach, Florida, she is happy to live the organized life–until she gets news that her grandfather has passed away and foul play is suspected. She is left floundering as she tries to analyze the contents of his frayed leather journal looking for clues to his untimely demise. She comes to the conclusion that there was more to her grandfather than met the eye. Unwilling to let his murderers go free, she closes her shop and sets out to find the truth.
Storm’s search for the truth takes her farther and farther from sunny Florida to London, France, Istanbul and Cyprus. Along the way she meets Harry Bennett, a treasure hunter, and Emma Webb, a US government lawyer. Together, their search leads them to a treasure of gold that is extremely controversial. With their lives in danger and surrounded by greed and lust for power, will they be able to find their way out? Will the circumstances reawaken Storm’s faith?
Gold of Kings is both a current novel as well as a historical novel in that it occurs in the present; however, historical events are the catalyst for many of the present-day situations. This book has been written with extreme attention to detail for the historical facts.
I enjoyed Storm’s character a lot and her actions and decisions are very heroic. But the character I found hating and loving at the same time was the treasure hunter Harry Bennett. In fact, I should say that all of Mr. Bunn’s characters are alive and breathing.
The novel is exceptionally written by a pro and I highly recommend it! If you have never read T. Davis Bunn before, this book will propel him to the top of your favorite author list!
