The story of Noah’s ark is fundamentally about the beauty of God’s promises, and God’s Rainbow is a beautiful telling of this hope-filled story. What makes this book so special is in its unique design. The pages are layered such that when you start the book, the right hand margin shows the picture of the ark. Each time you turn a page, a little bit of the ark disappears on the right side, but a little bit of the rainbow appears on the left side. By the time you get to the last page, the ark has disappeared entirely. On the left, there is now a complete picture of a beautiful rainbow.
This creative design works so well because of the outstanding quality of the illustrations. The illustrations are simply beautiful, and children of all ages will enjoy looking at these stunning pictures. The rich colors provide warmth to the book, and the many animal illustrations will keep younger children pouring over the pages.
The story of Noah, the ark, and the rainbow is told in a straightforward manner. Allia Zobel Nolan gives enough detail to keep children interested but not so much that the story would be overwhelming to little ears. With between 30 to 60 words on each of about 8 double-sided pages, this book can be read to a wide age range of children. Please note that the publishers specifically recommend this book for ages three to six.
It’s a beautiful story of trust, protection, and hope—ideas we might all ponder more often.
Armchair Interviews says: Overall, this book is an excellent pick for a young child in your life.
