Tim Blake, car salesman, is the guy next door who is struggling to figure out his relationships. He’s a divorced dad who is still more than a little in love with his ex-wife; his teenaged daughter, Sydney, baffles him most of the time; and his girlfriend is proving to be a few bricks short of a load.
He’s had some opportunity for introspection, but mostly he just gets through each day by putting one foot in front of the other. Until his daughter goes missing—while she was staying with him.He begins his search by going to the hotel where Sydney supposedly worked, but no one there has ever heard of her. As days go by without word, Tim begins to think he didn’t know his daughter at all, but he’s determined to find her and bring her home. What he doesn’t know is that he’s not the only person who’s looking for Sydne–just the only one who wants to keep her safe.
Linwood Barclay is at the top of his game with Fear the Worst. Flawless execution and plotting keep the story relentless and impossible to put down. The emotional roller coaster he creates for his characters is as skillfully drawn as the action scenes are paced.
Barclay is a former columnist for the Toronto Star, and is no stranger to penning best-selling novels.
Fear the Worst belongs on everyone’s nightstand, but it won’t be there long.
Armchair Interviews says: A highly recommended suspense.
