In this Book II in FBI series, Sonia Knight is an immigration and customs enforcement officer. She goes after the bad guys who are smuggling the immigrants to use as sex slaves, prostitution, and for labor. Sonia is on the job and watching a home under surveillance owned by Xavier Jones. She has wanted to take him down for smuggling immigrants. She is real close when an F.B.I. agent Dean Hooper walks in on her operation. He is trying to get Xavier Jones charged with money laundering and tax evasion. Now Sonia has to hope her informant and her case are not jeopardized by the F.B.I. walking in on her stake out.

Sonia learns she must either trust F.B.I. agent Dean Hooper and work with him, or risk losing the chance to take down Xavier Jones. Sonia decides to try to work with Dean. The only problem is that the last person she trusted turned his back on her and left her to defend for herself, and that almost got her killed.

As they get closer to learning more about Xavier and his partners, it starts to get personal for Sonia. Someone from her past is now in the picture but she knows her job comes first. She must deal with the case and try to close it–and then deal with her personal issues.

One of Xavier’s partners decides that he wants Sonia’s dead. So while working the case Sonia has to watch her back to keep from getting killed and still try to be one step ahead of Xavier’s partner so she and Dean can take him down.

This is book number two in the F.B.I. series. Number one is Sudden Death and number three is Cutting Edge.

I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book. It was hard to put down and full of suspense. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, I could not be more wrong. The author did a great job of keeping the reader lured in and waiting for more. There is a few graphic parts in the book but they would be easy to skip over because the book is worth a read.

Armchair Interviews says: A good thriller. Read the first in the series, and wait patiently for the third one.
