All boys want a chance to learn Dragon Magic and have a chance to be a Dragoneye. Twelve-year-old Eon has been studying intensely for years despite his disability, and this year he will get his chance to prove his value and possibly be chosen as the Dragoneye. Eon is one of the strongest candidates magically but one of the weakest physically because of a damaged leg that makes him lame. He also has a secret that could get him and his master killed. Eon is actually Eona, a sixteen-year-old girl–and females are forbidden from the position of Dragoneye–but Eon has no choice. He must succeed not only for himself but for his master and others that depend on his success. Can he do it?

Eon’s struggle to achieve the rank of Dragoneye takes a surprising turn, and he ends up living in the palace with the King and his family in a position he never imagined. Now not only is his master and the household that sheltered him depending on his success, but now the King and Prince are expecting him to perform a miracle and rescue the entire kingdom from the evil plans of the King’s brother. But Eon has no idea how to meet the expectations being placed upon his narrow shoulders, and living in the public eye puts him at a much higher risk of his secret being discovered–and that would mean death.

I loved this book! You will be drawn into Eon’s struggle from the first page. The story contains an epic battle of good verses evil with the fate of the kingdom depending on an unlikely and unprepared hero that you can’t help but love. This book is only half of the adventure, with the rest of the battle coming in the second book sometime in the future. I can hardly wait.

This is book for all children of all ages. No matter your physical age, if you believe that good will triumph over evil and that heroes can be anyone, you will relate to the hero in this story!

Armchair Interviews says: Super young adult offering that other ages will love as well.
