Things aren’t always what they seem in Fairbrook, or so the seemingly homeless hippie guy observes to Craig on his first night in the town. As the new associate pastor of Parkside Community Church, Craig has plenty of opportunities to witness the observation firsthand. What is he to make of Renee, the down-on-her luck pregnant, but helpful, teen? Or Kristy, the woman with a reputation for rebellion who acts so responsibly? The couple that has it all together—or do they? And the hidden life of so many others?
Just as I was in reading Mulberry Park, I was captivated from page one of Entertaining Angels. Set in the same location with a new cast of characters, completely separate individuals intermingle to form a coherent whole wherein most problems can be solved if people just look outside of their self and pay attention to those around them. The story weaves seamlessly back and forth between these individuals until it is one strong story that resolves in ways even better than you’d hoped.
I loved the reluctant minister who speaks his mind, holy or not. Who doesn’t like a person that won’t spout off platitudes as if they will solve the problem? And, as is so often true in real life, this story explores the impact a single decision can have on a community of people, good or ill. But, as in real life, all those little, single decisions, among many, can make a community when dealt with head on.
What an extraordinary story. Bravo, Judy Duarte!
