“Most people who want to lose weight eat too much and move too little.” – page 81
No one in medicine studied obesity in America until the 1950s. The group was formed due to their belief that obesity had a glandular or hormonal component to it case. Wrong. Another “excuse” is now useless.
Dr. Sasse, a foremost expert in the field of obesity medicine and surgery, has brought us easily followed guidelines. He’s pulled together tips that have stood the test of time and are medically proven.
The key to remember is that small changes become BIG changes over a year. Small changes in activities and route cause you to gain or lose weight.
It’s ironic that as an editor, right now I am working on one book about eating disorders and another on weight loss. Obviously food is on our minds–a lot.
Dr. Sasse’s 101 “ah ha” tips are listed by number in these breakouts.
— A Day in the Life: #1-17 — Daily things you can do to eat less, exercise more. My favorite was #16, “brush your teeth an hour earlier to prevent evening snacking.”
— The Goal: Setting Goals — #18-43 — Many are well-known tip but I learned a lot. My favorite is #34. Keep a record of the calories you DON’T eat—a way to say, “Atta girl.”
— Fueling & Refueling; Food — #44-64 — This “learn about food” section was most interesting.
— My “least favorite” was #59. Pass the bread (my downfall) as in pass the bread to someone else, not you.
— The Working Life — #65-69. We spend about a third of our days at work, where the candy bowl and pizza delivery can be brutal.
— The Working-Out Life — #70-90 is about burning up calories (exercise) and planning ahead if you are dining out or at a family/social setting.
— Food for Thought – #91-101 contains a lot of tips staring with “learn to …”
Armchair Interview says: Excellent resource and sort of 1-101 “kick-butt” way to look at the excuses we use and the easy ways start losing weight.
