Leigh Girard, a former teacher who after a battle with cancer, moved to Egg Harbor, Wisconsin, to start over. She is now working as a journalist and has a knack for sticking her nose in the middle of police business. The police do not appreciate her help. In this second book of this intriguing series, Leigh discovers the body of a murdered teen and will not let go of the story until she can figure out who is responsible.
With the police threatening to arrest her for interfering in their investigation, Leigh suddenly finds herself drawn into a dangerous game with the murderer who has began to write her letters with clues to who he is, what he has done, and where the next victim will be found. This time Leigh is in over her head and with no one backing her up, she could easily become the next body found.
Leigh is at it again, pushing people away and sticking her nose into police business. I love the character of Leigh. She is so determined to right wrongs and find the real truth for her news stories. But this isn’t about fame or recognition for Leigh; it is about truth and fairness. The bad guy in this story will probably walk away free and clear if Leigh’s doesn’t probe old wounds and dig into things better left alone. One of these days Leigh is going to go too far and there won’t be anyone in her life to help her escape.
I would very much like to see Leigh healing emotionally and finding more good things in life again. I hope we’ll see her able to deal with the personal aspects of her life so that she can move on into more healthy relationships in future books. For those who loved the first Leigh Girard book, Destroying Angels, you don’t want to miss this one. Anyone who loves good suspenseful mysteries with truly evil bad guys and all too human heroines, this is a series for you! I can’t wait to see what happens in book three.
Armchair Interviews says: A strong second book in the series. See our review for Destroying Angel.
