Bay Tanner is a private investigator. It all starts when she gets a call one morning telling her that her dad is in the hospital. She goes to see him and is informed that he is having heart problems and needs surgery. Bay goes to her dad’s house to find the power of attorney paper and comes across her dad’s will and reads it. She uncovers a big secret that has been kept from her her whole life.
Bay is engaged to Red Tanner, but she keeps coming up with excuses to not wear his ring. She keeps herself busy so she does not have to think about marrying her murdered husband’s brother.
A client comes into Bay’s office and hires her to find her two sisters. There are not many clues as to their whereabouts but they must be found now. The client’s daughter needs a transplant or she will die, and the sisters are the only hope she has left. This is truly a matter of life and death.
Bay is on the job looking for her client’s sisters. The only problem she is having is that people are keeping secrets that they wish not to reveal. Bay has to get the secrets out so she can get the answers she needs. While working this case, Bay also squeezes in as much time as possible to work on the secret she discovered in her dad’s will.
The closer Bay gets to her answers, a lot of information comes out about foul play that happened years ago. She keeps doing what is right to save the little girl’s life and to deal with her family’s own secrets over the years.
I loved this book. It was a fast read and very good. I could feel the characters’ emotions and loved how the whole story unfolded. This is the first I read in the series but I will be sure to read the others.
Armchair Interviews says: Many mysteries in this 5-star read.
