Squirt is a young squid who rises early one morning intent on a day of play with sea horses, sand castles and game of ink and hide (squids squirt ink, you know). Because there is a storm at sea he is unable to go out and play. Instead he begins to watch a new cartoon on a holoclam (a squid television).

Hours, then days pass and Squirt continues to watch the holoclam. His mother urges him to go outside and play with his friends but it is not until the holoclam runs away and he 'inks up' and clears his young mind that he experiences all that the world outside has to offer. Squirt realizes that he, with his own imagination, can become his own favorite cartoon character.

Stacy Nyikos' SQUIRT is a delightful children's story that explains and celebrates imagination vs. the holoclam (television). It is written in whimsical rhyme and the simple but charming illustrations will attract and interest children. Squid Squirts, at the back of the book, answers ten interesting questions about squids.

Armchair Interviews says: SQUIRT is a book that will introduce sea life to children and they will want to know more.
