This is the first of the Bernadette Saint Claire mysteries– Blind Rage, May 2008, and Blind Sight, to be released in 2009.
Bernadette (Cat) is a tough but vulnerable tiny blond tomboyish FBI agent with an unusual talent. When her twin Maddy died, she became able to see through the eyes of another, usually by holding on to some object they had held. She is transferred to St. Paul, Minnesota, and her new boss Tony Garcia, seems to understand her gift. They have some odd deaths–several bodies turning up in the woods, tied up with lots of rope, and with missing right hands.
The victims are despicable people, like a murderer, and a judge who exploited young women who were his cases. They quickly find a link to a renegade de-frocked priest, Damian Quaid, whose family was slaughtered by some intruders when he was young. Quaid believes in capital punishment, strict biblical interpretations of justice, and is going about setting things right. Then he is taken in by a woman who sets up her husband by painting him as a wife batterer who has watered down cancer drugs in his pharmacy business, causing deaths. This death Cat is able to “see” in real time, but will they be able to save the pharmacist and his lying wife?
This startling new series has several paranormal twists, with some very interesting theological debates and suspense galore. I can’t wait for the next book!
