Jonna Lightfoot McLaughlin is the religion reporter for a New Orleans newspaper who receives a message promising a gris-gris on her if she doesn't report that Mother God is in the Bayou and really angry. This is just the beginning of the different religions she has to deal with in her job.
Jonna also needs to find out who or what was behind the death of an elderly man and if the Blessed Mother is really being seen in the bark of a tree. Lightfoot is real, imperfect and open to anything after being raised by hippie parents who were seeking spiritual enlightenment.
Trying to do her job, seek out the truth, and find a man while on the job in the Crescent City, she isn't above asking for help with any of them from her psychic friend. She encounters all types while trying to write stories that aren't of the bake sale in the church parking lot variety.
You will enjoy A Quarter after Tuesday for its story and style if you love real characters in a good mystery tale. A story is told in a humorous voice that addresses the modern- day reality of big dollar development taking precedence over the needs of senior citizens living in a multi-sect supported center.
This second in a trilogy is a book to be read, shared and then looked at longingly as you wait for the next in the series.
