Sophie, Duchess of Calton and wife to her beloved Garrett, is anxiously awaiting his return from war on the Continent. He has been gone for several months, and everyday she
waits…waits for his return…waits for news that he will be gone from her forever.
Unfortunately, the day arrives that brings news of his injury and disappearance, and she’s afraid he’s dead. Sophie and Tristan, Garrett’s cousin and best friend, search everywhere Garrett could possibly be with no success. After seven years and still no sign of him, Sophie comes to terms with the fact that her husband is gone. She moves on, marries Tristan and settles into a comfortable life with him.

Then one night, eight years after his “death,” Garrett storms into the house, into Sophie and Tristan’s bedroom, rips Tristan from Sophie’s side and begins to beat him, enraged by the fact that his best friend is violating his wife. Once they are pulled apart, it is explained to Garrett that Sophie and Tristan are now husband and wife, and she had waited as long as she could before giving up hope that he would ever be found.

Where had he been all this time? Why had he abandoned them? Who is the strange man accompanying him?

After learning that Garrett had suffered from amnesia and that memories had only just started returning to him, Sophie has to come to grips with the fact that she now has two husbands–two husbands that she loves–and does not want to have to choose between.

With so many decisions to be made and questions to be answered, Sophie must search her heart for what she truly wants…and help protect the people she loves the most from an evil that no one sees coming.

Jennifer Haymore’s debut novel is filled with passion, intrigue and suspense. A Hint of Wicked is not average romance fluff. It is a story of life and death, revenge and true love. The characters are dimensional and the reader becomes engrossed in their tale.

I look forward to reading much more historical romance from Jennifer Haymore.

Armchair Interviews agrees.
